& compliant

CIRIA C681 provides the framework for managing UXO risks in the construction industry. All assessments, surveys, and clearance operations are rigorously aligned with this guidance, ensuring defensible due diligence and auditable processes.

We provide all necessary documentation, from initial assessments to clearance certificates, to meet planning authority and contractor requirements.

The process

We follow the prescribed four-stage risk management process.

01

Preliminary Risk Assessment

A desk-based review of historic military activity, bombing records, and land use to establish the likelihood and nature of UXO risk on your site.

02

Detailed Risk Assessment

A deeper evaluation where Stage 1 returns Moderate risk or above, including intrusive investigation and detailed analysis of ordnance threat types and depths.

03

Risk Mitigation Strategy

A written plan setting out the proportionate mitigation measures required, tailored to your planned scope of works and ground conditions.

04

Implementation of Risk Mitigation

Execution of the agreed measures (survey, clearance, supervision), with all works documented and certified for your project file and planning discharge.

Why it matters

Why CIRIA C681 compliance matters.

Demonstrates regulatory due diligence

A structured, documented UXO risk management process provides the auditable evidence required to satisfy HSE, CDM, and planning authority requirements.

Supports planning and H&S obligations

CIRIA C681-compliant assessments are the recognised basis for discharging UXO planning conditions and fulfilling Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM 2015.

Reduces liability and insurance exposure

Insurers and funders increasingly require evidence of CIRIA C681 compliance before underwriting or financing construction projects in areas of UXO risk.

Ensures site operability and safety

Proportionate, proactive UXO risk management protects your workforce, prevents unplanned stoppages, and keeps your project programme on track.
